Rakuten Travel Experiences — reviewed for Shibuya

Voyagin became Rakuten Travel Experiences. As a Japanese-domestic platform it can surface local inventory the international marketplaces miss — but it was erroring when we checked.

Overall 3.4 / 5 Last updated: 2026-09-03 Reading time: 3 min Disclaimer. This is an independent visitor guide to Shibuya. It is not the official website of SHIBUYA SKY, Shibuya Scramble Square or any other venue, and it is not affiliated with them. We do not sell tickets. Booking buttons open Klook or GetYourGuide. The verdict

In one paragraph

Voyagin was acquired by Rakuten and now trades as Rakuten Travel Experiences. As a Japanese-domestic platform its appeal is access to local suppliers who never list on the international marketplaces, sometimes at domestic rather than tourist pricing. We could not verify that for Shibuya: the search endpoint returned a server error when we checked on 3 September 2026. Worth a look as a secondary route, particularly if you have a Rakuten account, but not somewhere to build a trip around.

Voyagin was one of the better-known booking platforms for Japan before Rakuten acquired it. It now trades as Rakuten Travel Experiences.

What we could and couldn’t check

On 3 September 2026 we attempted a Shibuya search on the platform. The endpoint returned a server error — an application-level failure, not an empty result.

So this review cannot tell you what Rakuten Travel Experiences currently lists for Shibuya. Saying so is more useful than guessing.

Why a domestic platform can be worth checking

The argument for using a Japanese platform over an international marketplace is real, even if we could not test it here.

Local suppliers who list nowhere else. Small operators frequently register on domestic platforms and never appear on Klook or GetYourGuide, because international distribution is work they have no reason to do.

Domestic rather than tourist pricing. Where a product is sold primarily to a Japanese audience, the price sometimes reflects that.

Japanese-language support. For anything requiring back-and-forth with the supplier, this can matter.

The Rakuten ecosystem. If you already hold Rakuten points, the economics of a booking change. If you do not, this is not a reason to use it.

How to actually search it

If you want to try:

Browse by destination rather than searching a district name. Japan → Tokyo → Shibuya generally surfaces more than a keyword search.

Try the Japanese interface. Domestic platforms almost always show more in their home language.

Compare like for like. Where the same supplier’s product appears on Klook, check both.

What to use for Shibuya

For an English-speaking visitor building a Shibuya itinerary, the practical options remain:

  • Klook — the SHIBUYA SKY ticket, five kart operators, eight Shibuya exclusives
  • GetYourGuide — the tours, including evening ones with deck entry
  • The official site — cheapest for standalone deck entry

Rakuten Travel Experiences is a secondary check, not a foundation.

Sources and disclosure

The server error described above is what we encountered on 3 September 2026. Platforms recover from outages, and this should not be read as a permanent state.

Guide tips

Search the Japanese interface

Domestic platforms usually surface more in Japanese than in English. If you can read even a little, the Japanese version is worth trying before concluding that inventory does not exist.

Check it if you already have Rakuten points

For anyone inside the Rakuten ecosystem, the points economics can shift the comparison. For everyone else, that is not a reason to use it.

Treat it as a cross-check

Local suppliers sometimes list domestically at lower prices than on the international marketplaces. Worth a look on a specific product; not worth planning around.

Checked in practice

What works

  • Access to Japanese domestic suppliers
  • Sometimes domestic rather than tourist pricing
  • Integrates with the Rakuten ecosystem
  • Japanese-language support

What to watch out for

  • The search endpoint returned a server error when we checked
  • Shibuya inventory could not be verified
  • Weaker English-language experience than the major platforms
  • Smaller catalogue than Klook, GetYourGuide or Viator

FAQ

Is Voyagin still running?
It was acquired by Rakuten and now operates as Rakuten Travel Experiences. The Voyagin name is largely historical.
Does it have Shibuya activities?
We could not confirm it. The search endpoint returned a server error on 3 September 2026. Try browsing by destination, or the Japanese-language interface, rather than searching a district name.
Why use a Japanese domestic platform at all?
Local suppliers sometimes list there and nowhere else, occasionally at domestic rather than tourist pricing. That is the case for checking it as a secondary route.
Is it worth it if I don't have a Rakuten account?
Less so. Much of the advantage is the points ecosystem. Without that, Klook and GetYourGuide are easier to use and better stocked for Shibuya.
Can I buy Shibuya Sky tickets there?
Unverified. For deck entry, use the official Shibuya Scramble Square site or Klook.
