To be straightforward: Shibuya is not a district built for children.
It is dense, there is nowhere to sit, it is hilly, and after dark drinking takes over. Wandering around it with children is hard work.
It can still be worth including. Narrow the list, choose the hours, and it works.
What reliably works
Pokémon Center Shibuya / Nintendo TOKYO (free)
Sixth floor of Shibuya Parco. Both free to enter, and you can browse without buying. Same floor, so no moving between levels.
Watch out — weekends and holidays can bring entry limits or timed tickets, and when it is busy a pushchair is impractical inside. Weekday mornings, strongly.
Miyashita Park rooftop (free)
The roof of a retail complex, laid out as a lawn. One of very few free places to sit in Shibuya.
- Free
- Grass, so a little running around is possible
- Food below, so a break and a meal happen in the same place
Build it into the route as your rest point.
Yoyogi Park (free)
About fifteen minutes’ walk from Shibuya Station. Wide lawns with space to run.
It removes you entirely from Shibuya’s crowds, which helps children and adults equally. Adjoining Meiji Jingū is largely gravel paths, which is less pushchair-friendly.
Chopstick making (about an hour)
One of very few Shibuya activities children can take part in.
- An hour, about right for concentration
- They keep what they make
- Indoors and weather-independent
- Seated work
Tools vary between workshops — some use a small knife, others files and sandpaper. Decide based on age and whether you want a blade involved, and confirm when booking.

Taking children to Shibuya Sky
Worth knowing before the day, or it becomes a problem at the door.
Prices and how to buy

Child tickets are sold only at the desk, which means you cannot secure the whole family in advance.
The workaround is two-stage:
- Buy adult tickets online at the two-week mark
- Add the children at the desk on the day
The risk: if adult tickets have sold out online, the desk has none either. There is no situation where only child tickets remain.
Pushchairs
Only the venue’s own loan pushchairs are permitted on the rooftop, borrowed from the 46F information desk in limited numbers.
With one, parts of the rooftop including the helipad are off limits.
The official recommendation is a baby carrier. With infants, bring one.
Other constraints
- No hand luggage on the rooftop — everything into a 46F locker
- Escalators and stairs, with deliberately low lighting in places
- Carrying a child on your shoulders or in your arms while viewing is prohibited as unsafe
- The rooftop closes without notice in bad weather

Push everything into the morning.

After 19:00 Shibuya is not a place for children. Density is high and drinking becomes the dominant activity. If the evening is what you came for, do it separately.
Half a day
- 10:00 Shibuya Parco 6F — Pokémon Center and Nintendo TOKYO, straight after opening, no wait
- 11:30 Walk down Kōen-dōri
- 12:00 Lunch at Miyashita Park, then the rooftop lawn
- 13:30 Chopstick making, one hour
- 15:00 The Scramble Crossing and Hachikō
- 16:00 Shibuya Sky — adults booked online, children at the desk
- 17:30 Done
If you are going as far as the deck, take a proper break before it.

The main retail buildings generally have baby rooms with changing and feeding space.

Check the floor guides for locations. Keeping station-connected buildings on your route also gives you somewhere to retreat to if the weather turns.
Should you come at all?
Honestly, Shibuya is not the first choice for family sightseeing in Tokyo.
Reasons to include it
- The Pokémon Center and Nintendo TOKYO are the point
- You need something the adults will enjoy too
- Your accommodation is in or near Shibuya
Otherwise — Ueno with its zoo and museums, Odaiba, or Toyosu are all better set up for children.
Shibuya is a district you make work when you are bringing children along to an adult itinerary.
