Shibuya Scramble Square is the building. SHIBUYA SKY is what sits on its 46th floor and roof.
Why the building matters on its own
It is the district’s rain plan. Direct connection to Shibuya Station means you reach it without going outside. In a district whose headline attraction is an open-air rooftop that closes for weather without warning, having somewhere dry and central to regroup is not a small thing.
It is where last-day shopping happens. Food halls and souvenir floors, reachable from the platforms without stepping outdoors. Before a flight, that combination is hard to beat. See shopping in Shibuya.
It is a fixed point. Shibuya Station is confusing and under continuous redevelopment. This building is large, signed and connected, which makes it a reliable place to arrange to meet.
The luggage problem it creates
Worth stating clearly because it catches people out.
- Large luggage cannot enter the facility. Suitcases and similar must go into coin lockers around Shibuya Station first
- Hand luggage cannot go onto the Shibuya Sky rooftop. Bags, backpacks and shopping bags all go into lockers on 46F
- Bags are checked on entry
The practical consequence: do the deck before you shop, not after. Or use a station locker between the two.
Getting to the deck entrance
The SHIBUYA SKY entrance is on the 14th floor, not at street level.
From the ticket gates, allow ten to fifteen minutes when it is busy. Being late for your timed slot can mean being refused entry, and first-time visitors routinely underestimate how long Shibuya Station takes to cross. See getting there.
